Europe:Erasmus Mundus ALGANT Doctoral Scholarship for International Applicants

The ALGANT Joint Doctorate programme is open to all interested graduated students in Europe and elsewhere.
The European Union supports the course by financing some six scholarships for doctoral candidates outside the European Union, and four for European ones.
Other sources of funding are also available and tuition fees are kept at a very reasonable level.

Every doctoral candidate will have to work on a research project under joint supervision at a minimum of two different institutions of the consortium.

Erasmus Mundus DocMASE Scholarship in Materials Science and Engineering

The DocMase doctorate programme is the consequent next step in the already existing structures for international education in the framework of EUSMAT, and will be jointly offered by:

The aim of DocMASE is to provide a high level research structure for the best students from Europe and the rest of the world. Research projects organised in close cooperation by two universities of the consortium will be offered. Co-advisory is an integral part of the project, thus students will be assigned an advisor from each university where he/she carries out the research work.

Belgium:K.U. Leuven Science Scholarships for International Students

Motivated and talented international students, interested in participating in an international master programme of the Faculty of Science of the K.U.Leuven are invited to apply for a scholarship.

Which masters give the right to apply for the Scholarship? :

Master of Astronomy and Astrophysics, Master of Biology, Master of Molecular and Cellular Biophysics, Master of Chemistry, Master of Physics, Master of Geology, Master of Geography, Master of Mathematics and the Master of Statistics.

Amount of Scholarships:

The amount of the scholarship can be up to 8.000 Euro for 1 year. The Board of the Science@Leuven Fund will decide exactly how much a scholarship will be. The scholarship will always cover the tuition fee for 1 year, the insurance and a basic health insurance coverage. The amount awarded for living expenses can vary.

Most master programmes of the Faculty of Science are 2-year programmes. A scholarship for the second master year will be only be continued for students having had outstanding results the first master year.

Admission requirements

Applicants must meet and prove the following requirements:

* the applicants have not studied or worked at the University of Leuven before,

* the applicants have a bachelor degree from a foreign university that gives them access to the master programme they are applying for,

* the applicants can prove having had excellent study results during their former training,

Japan:Waseda University Master and PhD Scholarships 2011 for Foreign Graduate Students

Swedish-Turkish Scholarship Program for PhD and Post-Doctoral Studies,Sweden

This is a program for citizens of Turkey. Its purpose is to support master’s level or advanced level studies within social sciences and environmental studies at a Swedish Institution or higher education in order to increase knowledge to enable Turkey to enter the European Union.

Countries

The program is only open to candidates from Turkey. Around 5-10 scholarships will be offered for PhD studies and research for the academic year 2011/2012.

Target groups

The program provides PhD students and researchers with an excellent opportunity to conduct a study or research visit to a Swedish university within the fields of social science and environmental studies. PhD students and researchers can apply for scholarship for a maximum of 12 months.


Scholarships are given within the fields of social sciences and environmental studies with priority to the following areas: economics and management, democracy/human rights/gender issues, law, environmental studies, European studies and social issues.

Scholarship benefits

The scholarship amounts to SEK 12,000 per month for PhD students and SEK 15,000 for postdoctoral researchers.

Who is eligible?

The scholarships are intended for guest students or researchers applying for full-time temporary studies/research in Sweden. There is no age limit for the scholarship holders.

However, you are not eligible for this scholarship if any of the following is true:

•You have already lived in Sweden for two years or more when the scholarship period is due to begin.
•You have a Swedish permanent residence permit.
•You have a Swedish work permit.
•You are applying for a scholarship at PhD level but you are not enrolled in ongoing PhD studies at your home university.
•You are applying for a scholarship at Postdoctoral level, but you do not hold any PhD degree.

New applicants will be given priority over applicants that have previously been awarded a scholarship from the SI for study or research at a Swedish university.

Travel grants

Scholarship holders from Turkey will receive one travel grant in connection with the scholarship. The travel grant is a lump sum of SEK 5,000 given only once.

Insurance

Scholarship holders are insured by the Swedish State Group Insurance against illness and accident during the scholarship period.

Scholarship limitations

The scholarship is designed to cover the cost of living for the scholarship holder only and cannot be prolonged. There are no grants available for family members. No bench fee is provided.

France:Master’s and PhD Scholarship Programme ENS Cachan France 2011-2012 For The International Students

The International Scholarship Programme of the ENS Cachan is aimed at foreign students who are currently studying or have studied and obtained their most recent qualification outside of France.

The grant amounts to 1000 euros/month, for a duration of stay of 6 to 12 months.

The selection is made in two steps : pre-selection and final selection. In order to participate in the programme, you must first apply on line.

Fields

  • Sciences: applied mathematics, computer sciences, physics, chemistry, biology
  • Engineering: applied physics, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering
  • Social sciences and humanities: sociology, history, economics, management and law, design, educational sciences

Eligibility:

  • Master’s degree candidates must justify of a 1st year of master’s degree or equivalent obtained outside of France
  • PhD candidates must have a minimum qualification of master’s degree or equivalent obtained outside France or be following a PhD outside of France

Language skills:

A good knowledge of the French language is required for students applying for a complete academic year in a Research Master level 2.

Age:

For RM2 level admission, candidates must be less than 26 years old when starting their training at ENS Cachan.

Country:

This Scholarship Programme is open to students of all nationalities. However, priority is given to candidates from European countries, Maghreb countries, Brazil, Canada, India, Japan, Mexico, Taiwan, the United States, Vietnam.

Are not eligible:

  • Foreign candidates who are registered, in view of obtaining a diploma, in a French higher education institution.

Australia:Eberhard Wenzel Scholarship for International Public Health

The late Dr Eberhard Wenzel was an academic in the School of Public Health and worked in public health with a range of international health agencies for over 20 years. Dr Wenzel had a tremendous knowledge and understanding of public health issues facing humanity and his establishment of the Virtual Library for Public Health and the International Public Health Watch websites provided important means for him to engage with others who shared his passion for the field.
The objective of this scholarship is to enable students to undertake research which will advance understanding of a public health topic relevant to the academic interests of the late Dr Eberhard Wenzel.
There is one scholarship valued at $2000, for a student enrolled in either full- or part-time study in the Master of Public Health (research option) or an Honours program with the School of Public Health. The intent of the scholarship is to support the thesis component of the student’s honours or masters program of study.

La Fondation Louisiane is a non-profit 501(c)3 foundation It was created in 1989 with a gift from the estate of the late James Domengeaux, founder of CODOFIL

Eligibility:

· You must be a U.S. citizen or be a permanent resident of the U.S.

· You must be either a full-time student at a Louisiana university or a full-time teacher of French in the Louisiana school system.

· University students must have a declared Major in French Education or in French Liberal Arts.
Students must have an overall GPA of at least 2.5.
Students must have a GPA of at least 2.75 for their French courses.

· For universities who offer 3 credit hours for the beginners-level French course, students must have completed a minimum of 13 hours of university French to apply for a scholarship.

Credit received from Advanced Placement Testing is counted toward credit requirements for a scholarship.

Canadian Studies Programme Development Grant 2011 at The Indian Universities

The objective of the Programme Development Grant is to encourage scholarly inquiry and professional academic activities with the objective of contributing to the development and expansion of Canadian Studies at Indian Universities.

Gus Archie Undergraduate Scholarship Program 2011

The Gus Archie Memorial Scholarship is supported by the Archie Fund of the SPE Foundation. Each year the SPE Foundation, working through the SPE Section Scholarship Support Program, as well as working with individual candidates, awards the Archie Scholarship to the most outstanding student preparing to attend university for the first time. The curriculum must lead to an undergraduate degree in petroleum engineering.

The Archie Fund endows each scholarship at $6,000 per year. The program provides support of an individual student through up to four years of university study, provided that he/she makes satisfactory academic progress. The program ordinarily requires a grade point average of 3.0 / 4.0 or higher for the current semester and a grade point average of 3.0 / 4.0 or higher on a cumulative basis. Students rotate off the program after 4 years of scholarship support.

Selection Procedures

Applications may be submitted to any section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and should be screened by the section according to the criteria used in selecting recipients in the SPE Section Scholarship Support Program.

France:Erasmus Mundus SERP-Chem Scholarship Programme

The Master SERP-Chem aims at training young students in the most performing experimental and theoretical tools used and developed in chemistry and physical-chemistry. It is an answer for an increasing need of skilled people to participate in the efforts developed scientifically or industrially in areas of great relevance towards economic sustainability and environmental safety, conservation and protection such as: development of renewable energies and "no-energy" chemistry based on photon-induced reactions, use of radiation induced processes to optimize applications, surface treatment and modification, development of compounds for catalysis aimed at enhancing the selectivity and the efficiency of chemical and industrial processes. This international study programme stems from existing scientific links between participating institutions.

Degrees Awarded

At the end of this course, students will be awarded a double or multiple diploma, with a Joint Diploma Supplement describing the whole curriculum, grades and rank of the student.

Admission criteria

Other criteria to be taken into account are awards and external references. The application for the Erasmus Mundus scholarship is automatically proceedeed together with the admission.

The criteria and respective weights are the following:

•50%: academic workloads (including appropriateness of the curriculum (and diploma) to the present Master, marks and grade in studies),
•10%: home institution ranking (Shanghai ranking and/or CHE),
•10%: English,
•10%: recommendation of professionals,
•10%: motivation letter,
•10%: professional experience.


When is the deadline of application and when the admission decision is made?

The deadline for the application is mid December. The decision for the master admission is January. The answer for Erasmus Mundus scholarship is April 2011.

How can I apply for a Erasmus Mundus scholarship?

The same application than for the master (online as indicated on the website). In a first step, A scanned version of the docuemnts (to be uploaded on the application) is asked for the first selection made by the consortium to enter the master,. In a second step, if you are admited, a paper copy of translated (in English) and certified conform documents will be asked to be sent to the secretary. This last version will be submitted to the European agency for the scholarship competition.

Canada:Master/Ph.D. studentships in theoretical and computational chemistry at University of Calgary

Up to 4 graduate student positions in theoretical and computational chemistry will become available in my group by May 2011, September 2011 or January 2012. The successful applicants will be involved with the development of new computational methods or applications of state-of-the-art methodology to problems of chemical interest. Application deadlines are January 1 2011, May 1 2011, and September 20011, respectively.The applicant should have a solid background in Physical Chemistry , and a strong interest in Theoretical/Computational Chemistry as well as an average GPA corresponding to 3.3/4.0 (80 %) or more in the North American system.

All foreign students will be covered by an inexpensive medical insurance. Students will be fully supported by teaching assistance ships and scholarships for a total of $ 24,000 to $26,000 CDN. The tuition fee is covered by additional research grants . Foreign students with English as a second language must pass the TOEFL test with a score of 580.
