Europe:Erasmus Mundus Master's Programme in Systems Biology - euSYSBIO

The Erasmus Mundus master's programme in Systems Biology (euSYSBIO) is a cooperation between KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden (KTH), Instituto Superior Tecnologico in Portugal (IST) and Aalto University school of Science and Technology in Finland. It is a two-year Master's programme including compulsory mobilty for the students. Students enter at KTH or Aalto University and continue in the second year at one of the other two institutions.

The euSYSBIO programme offers education of high international standard as well as cultural experience from two different European countries and a double degree from two universities.

Students from any country are welcome to apply. A number of Erasmus Mundus scholarships are available.

Erasmus Mundus (SELECT) Scholarships for International Students

The master's programme in Environomical Pathways for Sustainable Energy Systems (SELECT) offers advanced education in the field of sustainable energy systems for the future. Europe:Erasmus Mundus (IMQP) Scholarship

The International Master in Quaternary and Prehistory (IMQP) lasts two years. It is formed of a partnership of six HEIs with multi-annual experience in prehistoric research and formation: Università degli Studi di Ferrara (Italy, coordinator), Muséum National d’Histoire naturelle (France, partner), Universitat Rovira i Virgili (Spain, partner), Instituto Politecnico of Tomar (Portugal, partner), Universidade de Tras-os-Montes and Alto Douro (Portugal, partner) and University of the Philippines Diliman (Philippines, partner).

The main subjects of the IMQP educational program are the following: prehistory, anthropology, human palaeontology, chronology, evolution of fauna and flora, archaeometry and Quaternary geology. The main objective of the Master is to provide an essential knowledge on Prehistory and Quaternary geology by adopting an interdisciplinary approach and exploiting the scientific specialities of each partner Institution.

The IMQP master award a JOINT DEGREE signed by all Partners Institutions (UNIFE, URV, MNHN, IPT & UTAD). The students can also ask for a national degree awarded by the first hosting institution. The officials languages of the joint degree are Italian and French.

Admission criteria: for all partner Institutions the same procedures for application and selection criteria for the admission to the Master Degree will be valid. Students from at least 3 year university courses can be admitted. These courses have to be legally acknowledged with university degree or similar qualifications within archeology, literature, prehistory, paleontology, Quaternary’s geology, natural and environmental science, biology and geology, technology and cultural heritage preservation, education and tourism science.

Partner institutions are engaged in the acknowledgment of degrees of Third Countries’ candidates according to the rules in force. Selections and applications, carried out at each partner institution’s with common agreed procedures, are consequently acknowledged by other participants to the Master Degree.

Students selected by partner University will be admitted to the Master Degree at the origin University and at Ferrara University, administrative center of the course.The application forms for the scholarships for third country students are published on this sites 4 months before the closing date of the call.

Erasmus Mundus (Quaternary and Prehistory - IMQP) Scholarship

The scholarships will be awarded as follows:

Category A - no. 6 scholarships awarded to masters students selected by EMMC consortia who come from a country other than an eligible applicant country and who are not residents nor have carried out their main activity (studies, work, etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in one of these countries. No. 1 scholarship awarded to masters students selected by EMMC consortia who come from Western Balkans and Turkey.

Category B – no. 4 scholarships awarded to any masters students selected by EMMC consortia and who do not fulfill the Category A criteria defined above.

* Category A scholarships can be awarded to masters students selected by EMMC consortia who come from a country other than an eligible applicant country and who are not residents nor have carried out their main activity (studies, work, etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in one of these countries.
** Category B scholarships can be awarded to any masters students selected by EMMC consortia and who do not fulfil the Category A criteria defined above.

Europe:Erasmus Mundus ALGANT Doctoral Scholarship for International Applicants

The ALGANT Joint Doctorate programme is open to all interested graduated students in Europe and elsewhere.
The European Union supports the course by financing some six scholarships for doctoral candidates outside the European Union, and four for European ones.
Other sources of funding are also available and tuition fees are kept at a very reasonable level.

Every doctoral candidate will have to work on a research project under joint supervision at a minimum of two different institutions of the consortium.

Erasmus Mundus DocMASE Scholarship in Materials Science and Engineering

The DocMase doctorate programme is the consequent next step in the already existing structures for international education in the framework of EUSMAT, and will be jointly offered by:

France:Erasmus Mundus SERP-Chem Scholarship Programme

The Master SERP-Chem aims at training young students in the most performing experimental and theoretical tools used and developed in chemistry and physical-chemistry. It is an answer for an increasing need of skilled people to participate in the efforts developed scientifically or industrially in areas of great relevance towards economic sustainability and environmental safety, conservation and protection such as: development of renewable energies and "no-energy" chemistry based on photon-induced reactions, use of radiation induced processes to optimize applications, surface treatment and modification, development of compounds for catalysis aimed at enhancing the selectivity and the efficiency of chemical and industrial processes. This international study programme stems from existing scientific links between participating institutions.

Degrees Awarded

At the end of this course, students will be awarded a double or multiple diploma, with a Joint Diploma Supplement describing the whole curriculum, grades and rank of the student.

Admission criteria

Applicants should have or should be in process to get a Bachelor (BS) degree at the time of the application. The proof of the Bachelor degree will be asked when entering the master September 2011. An applicant with a degree from an institution where the language of instruction is not English is required to provide official score reports from either the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Other criteria to be taken into account are awards and external references. The application for the Erasmus Mundus scholarship is automatically proceedeed together with the admission.

The criteria and respective weights are the following:

•50%: academic workloads (including appropriateness of the curriculum (and diploma) to the present Master, marks and grade in studies),
•10%: home institution ranking (Shanghai ranking and/or CHE),
•10%: English,
•10%: recommendation of professionals,
•10%: motivation letter,
•10%: professional experience.


When is the deadline of application and when the admission decision is made?

The deadline for the application is mid December. The decision for the master admission is January. The answer for Erasmus Mundus scholarship is April 2011.

How can I apply for a Erasmus Mundus scholarship?

The same application than for the master (online as indicated on the website). In a first step, A scanned version of the docuemnts (to be uploaded on the application) is asked for the first selection made by the consortium to enter the master,. In a second step, if you are admited, a paper copy of translated (in English) and certified conform documents will be asked to be sent to the secretary. This last version will be submitted to the European agency for the scholarship competition.

Europe:Erasmus Mundus International Masters in Economy, State & Society

The IMESS degree offers three distinct interdisciplinary study tracks, reflecting the unique multidisciplinary expertise of the IMESS partner institutions. Students enroll onto one of the study tracks and specialise, from beginner’s level, in one of the partner institution languages. Additionally, for non-native English speakers a nine-week course in ‘Academic writing in English’ is included in the first semester at UCL. Each IMESS track combines compulsory language training, research methodology, specialist electives and a research dissertation carried out from the end of the first year.
All applicants must complete the standard UCL graduate studies application form and include the additional required materials, paying particular attention to the guidelines below on how to complete the IMESS Supplementary Questionnaire. Failure to complete the IMESS Supplementary Questionniare will result in your application being discarded.

Students can either apply by downloading a hard copy of the application form, requesting a hard copy application pack to be sent off to a contact address or by applying online (for all these options please click the UCL graduate studies application form link below). Europe:European Doctorate in Law and Economics

EDLE presents a combination of course work and research. The curriculum is devised to provide advanced and challenging education both to lawyers and economist. Candidates will be able to choose between basic and advanced courses depending on their educational background.

In the first year, from October to April, candidates stay in Bologna. Candidates with a legal background will be offered the possibility to attend introductory courses in Maths, Game theory, and Statistics. Candidates with a background in economics will be offered the possibility to attend advanced courses in Microeconomics, Econometrics, and Financial Economics. All candidates must take a course either in Statistics or Econometrics, and dedicated courses in:

Europe:Erasmus Mundus Masters in Management and Engineering of Environment and Energy

The ME3 Masters program extends over 2 years. It is composed of an academic period which lasts 3 semesters, and of an industrial or research project period, which covers the 4th semester.

For the 2011-2013 edition of the ME3 program, 3 options should be available. Students will have to indicate their preference for option during application process. The ME3 academic steering board will decide the final option for each accepted applicants which will be informed in their acceptance letter.

The Consortium of the European joint Masters of Science in Management and Engineering of Environment and Energy (ME3) is composed of five institutions :

- Ecole des Mines de Nantes (EMNantes), France which is the coordinating institution
- Escuela Tecnica Superior de Ingenieros Industriales de Madrid from Universidad Polytecnica de Madrid (UPM/ETSII), Spain
- Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan (Royal Institute of Technology) (KTH), Sweden
- Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME), Hungary

CEMACUBE Masters Scholarship 2011 in Biomedical Engineering

In September 2010 an Erasmus Mundus Master’s course, called CEMACUBE (Common European MAster’s CoUrse in Biomedical Engineering) will start. Recently the grant application, submitted by RuG and UMCG, is accepted. Goal of this course is to prepare students from Europe and outside Europe for professions in Biomedical Engineering.

For a single university it is difficult to have enough knowledge of all sub-specialisations in Biomedical Engineering to teach their students on an adequate level. Also the required European scope is difficult to gain when students stick to a single university. Therefore a consortium of 6 universities has joined their knowledge and specific expertise into a 2-year European Master’s in Biomedical Engineering.

During the first year (semester 1 and 2), a student will follow lectures on all biomedical engineering subjects at one of the six universities, the 3rd semester (s)he will move to one of the participating universities to follow lectures on a specific topic, like medical imaging, tissue engineering or artificial organs. The fourth and last semester, a Master’s project will be performed on this specialisation at one of the 6 participating universities: the Universities of Groningen (The Netherlands), Aachen (Germany), Dublin (Ireland), Ghent and Brussels (Belgium) and Prague (Czech Republic). Each student will receive a double degree. Admission criteria are: a Bachelor in engineering and good knowledge of English (all teaching will be given in English), a convincing motivation letter and letters of reference.

Students that followed this European Master’s course in Biomedical Engineering are trained with a Europan view, experienced in intercultural and interdisciplinary teamwork. They will have a broad overview of the entire field of BME.

UK:Colt Foundation Fellowships in Occupational/Environmental Health 2011

The Colt Foundation is particularly interested in high quality research projects in the field of occupational and environmental health, particularly those aimed at discovering the causeof illneises arising from conditions at the place of work. The Foundation also makes grants each year to PhD students whose subject is relevant to this field of medicine. The grant is normally for three years, and the stipend rate for the first year is f’12,000 (t 1 3 ,000 inside London), rising with inflation for the following two years. Erasmus Mundus Master Scholarships in Sustainable Tropical Forestry (SUTROFOR) 2011

The MSc programme in Sustainable Tropical Forestry (SUTROFOR) is a top-level programme aimed at preparing qualified graduates to deal with contemporary tropical forestry. It provides students with direct access to the best tropical forestry teaching in Europe.

The programme is offered by a five university consortium from Denmark, France, Germany, Italy and Wales. The programme consists of a year of study in one of three institutions (Bangor, Copenhagen, Dresden) followed by a second study year at one of the four other institutions. The aim of the first year is to provide a thorough and broad introduction to sustainable tropical forestry. This allows students to choose freely among the five specialisation options in the second year. The first year ends with the Joint Summer Module including field work in a tropical country. Specialisation options in the second year are agroforestry systems (Bangor), socio-economics of tropical forestry (Copenhagen), tropical forest management (Dresden), environmental management and policies for tropical forests (Montpellier), or ethics in forestry and responsible trade in tropical forest products and services (Padova). The teaching staff is very active in research and students profit from their global expertise.

The SUTROFOR offers an integrated study programme with a resulting double degree that is fully recognised in all the participating countries. Selection requires a strong Bachelor’s degree, the applicant’s CV, documentation of proficiency in English (and if choosing Montpellier, French in some cases), the applicant’s personal statement of motivation, and recommendations from two references. The language of instruction is English with a French option in Montpellier.

Category A Scholarships for Third-country nationals: Total 48.000 EUR

Category A scholarships can be awarded to masters students from all countries other than the 27 EU member states and EEA/EFTA states: Iceland, Lichtenstein and Norway. Furthermore, you must comply with the 12 months rule: You must not be a resident nor have carried out main activity (studies, work etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in one of these countries.

Category B Scholarships for European nationals: Total 20.000 EUR

Category B scholarships can be awarded to any masters students who do not fullfil the criteria A defined above, i.e nationality requirement and 12 months rule.

For both categories please note:

1. You must study in two of the consortium partner countries.
2. The two countries must be different from the country in which you have obtained your last university degree.

It is possible to be admitted to the Course, even though you are not awarded a scholarship. You will then have to cover EM SUTROFOR participatory costs. If you finance your study yourself, you are allowed to study in the country of your last university degree.

Erasmus Mundus: Masters Scholarship Programme 2011/12 in International Performance Research (MAIPR) for International Students

unded by the European Commission, the MA in International Performance Research (MAIPR) Erasmus

Mundus programme from autum 2011 will be offered by four internationally renowned academic institutions: the University of Warwick in the UK; the Universiteit van Amsterdam (the University of Amsterdam) in The Netherlands; the Tampereen Yliopisto (the University of Tampere) in Finland, the latter in cooperation with Helsingin Yliopisto (the University of Helsinki); and the Arts University of Belgrade (Serbia)

Students study at two of these institutions, a home and a mobility institution. The two institutions at which you study – and either can be your home or your mobility location – will be a combination of Warwick, Amsterdam and Arts Belgrade. You also conduct fieldwork and arts research in these countries. You will spend from the beginning of the course until the December holiday break at your home institution. You then go to your mobility institution, where you will study until the end of June. When you finish your mobility period, you will be expected to complete your studies at your home university.

In addition, all students attend a summer school in Finland, run by Tampere, thereby benefitting from additional teaching and supervision by Finnish tutors throughout the programme.

Students successfully completing the programme will receive a double degree from the Universities of Warwick, Amsterdam or Arts Belgrade.

Erasmus Mundus Scholarships: the European Commission, via the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA), funds two scholarship competitions for outstanding students from outside the EU and for selected EU/EEA/EFTA students, as well as for a number of visiting scholars. Erasmus Mundus Scholarships (SUBJECT TO CONFIRMATION)

Erasmus Mundus (EM) Scholarships are funded by the European Commission (EC), under the management of the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA). EM scholarships are awarded to the strongest applicants to the MAIPR programme itself, in accordance with the rules and regulations set by the EACEA.

EM Scholarship Competition 2011-12 Eligibility: Erasmus Mundus has two separate competitions, Category A and Category B:

CategoryA: € 36 000: The application deadline is Tuesday, 4th January 2011

Category A scholarships are aimed at covering all the costs of the programme, therefore fees, travel and living expenses over 16 months:

• 10 scholarships for eligible third-country applicants (therefore those whose nationality and place of abode are outside of the EU/EEA/EFTA area) who have lived, studied and/or worked for LESS THAN a cumulative period of 12 months within the EU/EEA/EFTA area as at 31 January 2011.
• 2 additional scholarships are reserved for eligible West Balkans and Turkish applicants who have lived, studied and/or worked for LESS THAN a cumulative period of 12 months within the EU/EEA/EFTA area as at 31 January 2011.

After the € 12 000 programme fee has been deducted from the EM scholarship, you will receive € 24 000. This amount is made up as follows:

• € 8 000 travel and installation allowance
• € 16 000 monthly stipend

The above will usually be paid in 16 x monthly instalments of 1 500 €. The first payment will be made shortly after arrival at your home university.

Category B: € 14 000: The application deadline is Tuesday, 4th January 2011

Category B scholarships are considered as financial contributions rather than full scholarships:

• 8 scholarships for eligible EU/EEA/EFTA applicants, also third-country applicants who have lived, studied and/or worked for MORE THAN a cumulative period of 12 months within the EU/EEA/EFTA area as at 31 January 2011.

After the programme fee has been deducted from the EM scholarship, an EU student will receive € 8 000 to be paid over 16 months at the rate of € 500 per month.

EM Scholarship Competitions: you do not apply separately for either of the EM scholarship competitions. Recommendations are made by the MAIPR consortium and are based solely on the quality of the application to the MAIPR programme itself. See the How to Apply webpage for more information.

EM scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis. It is therefore important that your MAIPR application is as strong as possible as competition for the scholarships is very strong. You should also bear in mind that you may be accepted onto the MAIPR programme but not be awarded a scholarship. Remember: if you apply for the MAIPR after the 4th-January 2011 deadline, you cannot be entered into the EM competition

OpSciTech is one of the Master Courses selected by the prestigious Erasmus Mundus framework of the European Commission through which students from non-European Uni0n countries are eligible for two-year grants of € 24,000 per year. For 2010/2011, a total of 10 Erasmus Mundus grants are available for these students (“general category”) and additionally 1 or 2 specifically for students from “special windows”, namely Western Balkans and Turkey. EM grants are awarded on the basis of merit by the European Commission under proposition of the OpSciTech board.
