International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS),Australia

The International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS) scheme is funded by the Australian Government and provides tuition fees to top quality international postgraduate students who wish to enrol in a research degree at Australian universities.

Applications are assessed on academic merit and research potential. In addition to the IPRS, the University of Sydney awards an International Postgraduate Award (IPA) to IPRS holders. The IPA provides a stipend/living allowance to all IPRS recipients.

The IPRS is available to students commencing in both the March and July Semesters. Students must indicate that they would like to be considered for the IPRS by completing the relevant section of the Postgraduate Research Application form (271kb pdf). To be considered for the award, applications MUST be received by the International Student Office by:

- 31 July of the previous year for Semester 1 (March) commencement
- 31 December of the previous year for Semester 2 (July) commencement

To be eligible for the IPRS, you must:

• Be an international student commencing full time enrolment in a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) at this University.
  If you commenced your HDR in the previous year, but due to the timing of your application and subsequent enrolment were unable to be considered for an IPRS, you may apply and be considered for an IPRS during the current round of IPRS application.
  Students in this situation should complete the IPRS Special Application Form (112kb pdf). This form MUST be received at the International Student Office by 31 August of the current year.
• Be a student undertaking study in a subject area identified by the University as within the areas of its current and emerging research strengths.
• Not hold a research qualification regarded to be equivalent to an Australian Research Doctorate degree, or, if undertaking a Research Master's degree, not hold a research qualification regarded to be equivalent to or higher than an Australian Research Masters degree.
• Not have held an AusAID scholarship within two years prior to commencing the IPRS.
• Not be receiving a scholarship for which course tuition is a component under any other scholarship scheme to which the Australian Government makes a substantial contribution.
• Not previously have received an IPRS, unless the previous IPRS was for a Master by Research degree that you have completed and you are now applying for a doctorate research degree.

The University awards approximately 30 IPRS awards each year. Successful candidates will be notified in:

– late October/early November for Semester 1 (March) commencement
– April for Semester 2 (July) commencement

Note that only successful applicants will be notified.

In addition to the IPRS awards, commencing students may also be considered for the University of Sydney International Scholarship (USydIS). The USydIS is open to all research disciplines, however participation in the USydIS program each semester is at the discretion of the Dean of each Faculty. No application form for the USydIS is required and eligible applicants will be considered during the IPRS selection process in October/November for scholarships to commence in Semester 1 (March), and in early April for scholarships to commence in Semester 2 (July).

The USydIS will cover tuition fees and a living allowance similar to the IPRS.

Swiss Government scholarships 2012-2013 for university, fine arts and music schools for foreign students

The Swiss Government awards a range of scholarships to foreign students through the Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students (FCS): university scholarships (Swiss universities and Federal Institutes of Technology), arts scholarships (schools of music and fine arts) and scholarships for universities of applied sciences (UAS). These scholarships provide graduates from all fields with the opportunity to pursue postgraduate studies or research in Switzerland at a public funded university or recognized institution.

Czech Republic Government Scholarships 2012-2013 for Foreign Nationals from Developing Countries at Bachelor and Master’s Level

The Government of the Czech Republic offers a number of scholarships within the framework of its Foreign Development Assistance Programme in support of the study of foreign nationals from developing countries at public institutions of higher education in the Czech Republic.

Eligibility:

-Bachelor: Government scholarships of this category are awarded to graduates from upper secondary schools who can enrol only in study programmes in which they follow instruction in the Czech language. Depending on the subject area, applicants are normally required to take entrance examinations at the respective institution of higher education. The scholarship award is conditional upon a successful passing of entrance examinations;

-Master study programmes or Doctoral study programmes. Government scholarships of this category are awarded to graduates of Bachelor or Master study programmes, respectively, who enrol in study programmes with instruction in the English language.

Quota Scholarship Scheme for Developing Countries in Norway

The Norwegian government provides students from developing countries in the South and countries in the Western Balkans, Eastern Europe and in Central Asia with financial support to study for a degree in Norway under the Quota Scheme.

The main objective of the Quota Scheme is to contribute to capacity building through education that will benefit the home country of the students when they return. The Quota Scheme is also intended to strengthen relations between Norway and the selected countries and thus contribute to internationalisation at Norwegian institutions of higher education.

Most universities and university colleges in Norway participate in the Quota scheme. The institutions involved are allocated a certain number of students under the programme each year. The scheme normally includes courses at Master’s and Ph.D. level in addition to certain professional/Bachelor’s degrees. Most of the Norwegian institutions offer courses and educational programmes in English.

Danish Government Scholarships Per Year

Danish higher education institutions receive a limited number of government scholarships each year to fund highly qualified full-degree students from non-EU/EEA countries or Switzerland.

In order to be eligible for a scholarship you must be:

a citizen of a country outside the EU, the European Economic Area or Switzerland
enrolled in a full degree higher education programme
granted a time-limited residence permit in Denmark due to education

You are not eligible for a scholarship if you are:

studying in Denmark on the grounds of a bilateral exchange agreement
have a legal claim to the rights of Danish citizens
have been granted a residence permit at the time of admission by the Danish Aliens Consolidations Act §9c, subsection 1, as the child of a foreign citizen who has been granted a residence permit in accordance with the Danish Aliens Consolidations Act §9a, and who is a citizen of a country that is not acceded to the EU or covered by the EEA agreement
are a student who is eligible for a grant in accordance with Danish Law regarding the State Education Fund

The scholarships are administered by the higher education institutions, who individually decide which students are selected to receive a scholarship. For further information about the governement scholarship, please consult the higher education institution’s admission details.

Please note: the government scholarship consists of two parts and can be given as full or partial tuition fee waivers and/or grants towards covering your living costs. France:Eiffel scholarships Programme 2011/2012 on master’s, engineering and PhD courses for overseas students

French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs launched the Eiffel excellence scholarship programme in January 1999 to support French centres of higher education in their international outreach initiatives, in a context of mounting competition among developed countries, to attract elite overseas students on master’s, engineering and PhD courses.
