USA:M. Hildred Blewett Scholarship

To enable early-career women to return to physics research careers after having had to interrupt those careers. The scholarship consists of a one-year award of up to $45,000 (applicants can apply in a subsequent year for one additional year of support). Allowed expenses include dependent care (limited to 50% of the award), salary, travel, equipment, and tuition and fees. Overhead charges by the institution are not allowed.

The applicant must currently be a U.S. citizen, legal resident, or resident alien of the United States or Canada. She must be currently in Canada or the United States and must have an affiliation with a research-active educational institution or national lab. She must have completed work toward a PhD. Applicants are strongly encouraged to be members of the American Physical Society.


History of the Award

The award was established from a generous bequest from M. Hildred Blewett, an accelerator physicist who died in 2004. Hildred Blewett was passionate about physics and wanted to help women overcome obstacles by establishing the scholarship.

All applications are reviewed by a sub-committee of the Committee on the Status of Women in Physics. The Blewett Scholarship application process opens in the fall and the application deadline is in June 2011.

The Curtin Canning College Science International Bursary is available to international students enrolling at Curtin University in 2011 who have demonstrated high-level academic achievement in their studies at Canning College, and obtained an ATAR (TER) of at least 96 or equivalent in 2010.

Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit and choosing an eligible Undergraduate Science degree at Curtin as 1st preference through TISC.

Eligibility:

• Be a Canning College student in 2010
• Be an international student and hold a valid Student Visa – Higher Education (Subclass 573)
• Have received a Confirmation of Enrolment (COE) in an eligible Science undergraduate course at Curtin University in 2011 (see applicant information document for the list of eligible courses)
• Commencing the first year of study at Curtin University, in an eligible course in 2011
• Have selected Curtin University through TISC as a first preference to undertake an eligible Science undergraduate degree;
• Receive an ATAR (TER) or equivalent of at least 96.

Merdeka Scholarships For The Malaysians At University Of Oxford

Applications are invited from Malaysian citizens for the Merdeka Scholarships, tenable from October 2011. The scholarships are awarded to those wishing to undertake postgraduate degrees at the University of Oxford.

Successful candidates will be of exceptional academic calibre. They will have shown promise as future national leaders in their respective fields. Candidates should be able to demonstrate how their study will make a beneficial contribution to Malaysia.

The scholarships will cover university and college fees, maintenance allowance and return air fares. They will be renewable annually for the duration of the course.

The deadline for receipt of applications is 10th January 2011.

Chinese Ministry of Education-University of Oxford Scholarships for Asian, UK

This scheme aims to provide Chinese students who demonstrate both academic excellence and leadership potential with the opportunity to study for a DPhil at the University of Oxford.

The scholarships are supported jointly by the China Scholarship Council (on behalf of the Chinese Ministry of Education) and the University of Oxford.

Am I eligible?

Candidates should be applying to start a new DPhil course in any subject at the University of Oxford. They must be from the mainland Peoples’ Republic of China (i.e. not Hong Kong or Macao) and must have graduated from one of the211 project universities.

Candidates must demonstrate both academic excellence and the potential to become a leader in their field, a decision-maker and opinion former within China. They must be prepared to return home upon completion of their studies.
What does it cover?

100% of university and college fees, a grant for living expenses (the rate for 2010-11 is £11,700), and one return airfare (China-UK-China).

Awards are made for the full duration of a student’s fee liability for the agreed course. The continuation of your scholarship each year is subject to an annual renewal process based on satisfactory academic progress.
How do I apply?

1) Apply at the same time as you apply to Oxford by selecting Chinese Ministry of Education – University of Oxford Scholarships in the Funding Section of the University’s Graduate Application Form. Candidates should apply by Application Deadline 2 (7 January 2011 for Medical Sciences and Philosophy; 14 January 2011 for Said Business School applicants; 21 January 2011 for all other subjects).

If you do not apply in full by the deadline, you will not be considered for the Scholarship, even if you have selected Chinese Ministry of Education – University of Oxford Scholarships on the Graduate Application form.

2) You must apply separately to the China Scholarship Council for this scholarship. Please visit the China Scholarship Council website for information about their application process.

How will I know if I have been successful?

Successful candidates will be notified by email in May 2011. This webpage will be updated to show when all decisions have been made. If you have not heard from us by the time this notice is posted, then your application to this scheme has been unsuccessful. CEMACUBE Masters Scholarship 2011 in Biomedical Engineering

In September 2010 an Erasmus Mundus Master’s course, called CEMACUBE (Common European MAster’s CoUrse in Biomedical Engineering) will start. Recently the grant application, submitted by RuG and UMCG, is accepted. Goal of this course is to prepare students from Europe and outside Europe for professions in Biomedical Engineering.

For a single university it is difficult to have enough knowledge of all sub-specialisations in Biomedical Engineering to teach their students on an adequate level. Also the required European scope is difficult to gain when students stick to a single university. Therefore a consortium of 6 universities has joined their knowledge and specific expertise into a 2-year European Master’s in Biomedical Engineering.

During the first year (semester 1 and 2), a student will follow lectures on all biomedical engineering subjects at one of the six universities, the 3rd semester (s)he will move to one of the participating universities to follow lectures on a specific topic, like medical imaging, tissue engineering or artificial organs. The fourth and last semester, a Master’s project will be performed on this specialisation at one of the 6 participating universities: the Universities of Groningen (The Netherlands), Aachen (Germany), Dublin (Ireland), Ghent and Brussels (Belgium) and Prague (Czech Republic). Each student will receive a double degree. Admission criteria are: a Bachelor in engineering and good knowledge of English (all teaching will be given in English), a convincing motivation letter and letters of reference.

Students that followed this European Master’s course in Biomedical Engineering are trained with a Europan view, experienced in intercultural and interdisciplinary teamwork. They will have a broad overview of the entire field of BME.

William S. Lee International Study Scholarships

Lee International Study Scholarships are intended to:(1) Help undergraduate students understand how to apply engineering, science, and technology within a global societal context, (2) Better prepare undergraduate students to contribute in a global economy, (3) Promote an awareness of and appreciation for cultural diversity, (4) Generate undergraduate student interest in international study and internships, (5) Offer more affordable international exchange opportunities to our undergraduate students.

Awards will be made to undergraduate students wishing to pursue international experiences that offer academic credit toward completion of their degree. Individual scholarship awards will vary in amount depending on the cost and length of the exchange program. Scholarships will be awarded to students who are recognized for attributes that Mr. Lee, former CEO of Duke Power and for whom the college is named, considered fundamental for success.

To be eligible for consideration for a scholarship, at the time of submission a student must::

* Be a full-time College of Engineering student with a declared major.
* Be a junior or senior.
* Have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0.

Award decisions will be based on:

* Completed application
* Resume
* Ability to successfully serve as an ambassador for the University and the College
* Ability to promote international programs and experiences to other students upon return
